Although many will serve up prime rib, lobster tails, rack of lamb, spiral ham, roast beef, and more delicious meats for their special occasion holiday parties, some are looking for an easy recipe for their holiday party to offer in addition to these delicious main course menu ideas.

To find a unique and crowd-pleasing appetizer to complement your main dishes for the holiday season and Christmas Day, I checked out Southside Market & Barbeque to get you the inside scoop on a great way to spice up your holiday menu.

Who is Southside Market & Barbeque?

Featuring delicious sausage and smoked meat products, Southside Market continues to follow the same authentic methods from the founder, William Moon.

Moon started Southside Market in 1882, produced the meat, and then would carry it to town by horse-drawn wagon and sold it door-to-door.

Since he had to sell it fresh, or risk spoilage, he decided to create a way to have fresh meat without refrigeration. Therefore, Smoked Sausage and BBQ were created simply to offer fresh meat without the need for refrigeration.

In 1886, Moon opened his first brick-and-mortar store on Central Ave, and then in 1908, he sold the business to Lee Wilson who continued to serve it as a small-town butcher shop that sold BBQ in the back.

Flash forward to today, the old-fashioned and authentic methods, consisting of smoking low and slow over real Texas post oak wood, are still used. The well-loved beef sausage, sausage slammers, and signature Elgin Hot Sausage have quickly grown from an Austin staple to dinner tables around the country through home delivery services.

What does Southside Market & Barbeque provide?

Featuring an impressive selection of grilling bbq options perfect for holiday celebrations, there is something for every guest.

Whether you are wanting a main course like a smoked turkey breast for your Christmas menu or looking for fun side dishes with bbq flavors, Southside Market & Barbeque provides a unique flavor and is sure to be on the fan favorites list this year.

Your festive holiday table will be complete with delicious options like:

  • Sausage
  • Smoked meats like
    • Turkey
    • Sausage
    • Pork ribs
    • Baby back ribs
    • Chicken
    • Pork steak
    • Beef brisket
  • Seasonings
  • Sauces

How are the Southside Market & Barbeque Packaged?

From my experience, Southside Market & Barbeque came carefully packaged.

The initial box I opened was a larger one with dry ice, then a smaller carton featured the frozen packages of the bacon-wrapped sausage slammers.

Will My Holiday Guests Like Southside Market & Barbeque?

From my experience, yes (as long as you have meat eaters coming to dinner.)

At my home, the Bacon Wrapped Sausage Slammers are a hit.

The sausage is very tender, the cheese and jalapeno middle complemented the sausage perfectly, and the bacon created a nice finish.

How to Prepare Bacon Wrapped Sausage Slammers?

According to the packaging, there are several ways to prepare sausage slammers.

Prepare by:

  • Sauté
  • Smoker
  • Microwave
  • Oven
  • Outdoor Grill

For some easy menu ideas, and a quick meal at home, I microwaved the sausage slammers and my family enjoyed the treat.

We paired the sausage with some fresh salads, grilled corn, and brown sugar sweet potatoes and found it delicious.

I would assume one of our favorite ways to prepare will be the grill as we enjoy that smoky flavor the grill produces.

They feature the following holiday gift set options:
