My Long and Winding Road to Basic DIY
Picture it! March 8, 2020… (yes, thaaaat March of 2020) my husband and I made the decision to downsize our house and move closer to our work.
We had zero clue a global pandemic was about to happen.
Our home was listed and (to our surprise) it sold in about a day.
Then, boom! Everything started shutting down.
With our house under contract – and not many choices of great real estate – we made the hard choice to rent for a year.
That year of renting quickly turned into 15 months.
We were desperate for a place to call our own, and so was our pup! Turns out sharing walls with neighbors was a bit much for her (and us.)
Flash forward to spring of 2021 and the housing market was, well, unkind to say the least.
Houses were going for well over asking – with competing offers by the dozens.
After being outbid time and time again – like a ray of hope, a 1960s (in need of TLC) bi-level home was listed.
We made an offer, and it was accepted.
I had no idea how purchasing that home would transform my life.
Hey DIY world – I’m ready for you!
As we became the proud parents of a 1960s bi-level fixer-upper, our newest journey was about to begin.
Updating our new-to-us home on a budget.
My Newfound Hobby
Upgrading my home sparked a newfound love and hobby in basic home Do It Yourself (DIY) improvements.
Along the way, I’ve created many helpful tips and guides.
I look forward to sharing this with all of you.
Although I’m learning, (when this began – I had no clue how to open a can of paint – yes, I’m serious).
My first can of paint opened all by myself – my husband cheered for me!
I’ve propelled this first triumph into lots of projects.
A love of home DIY was born in me and continues to flourish each day. Plus, keeping our home clean the easy way is a top priority.

I’m a lifelong Ohioan. I’ve been married to my best friend, Dan for more than 18 years. I’m a dog mom to our fur baby, rescue pup, Mirage.
Fun facts about me:
- I love swimming at my local YMCA – especially outside!
- I think a baseball game is the best date night.
- I have a degree in Professional Writing and Editing.
- I’m a dog mom to Mirage and police K9, Paco (retired and crossed the rainbow bridge).
- I married my best friend more than 18 years ago in Las Vegas.
- I enjoy ice skating and taught lessons for many years.
