In this blog post, we have outlined some ideas, tips, and designs that won’t break the bank when it comes to putting together children’s bedrooms on a budget.
So let’s get into it! Keep reading for all the great ways to upgrade a child’s bedroom on a budget.
1: Decide A Child’s Bedroom Theme
A child’s bedroom can be a lot of fun, but sometimes it can be difficult to narrow down a theme.
However, before you start buying furniture and accessories, it’s important to fully decide on a theme.
Once you’ve chosen a bedroom theme, you can shop for pieces that will go best with that idea and style.
When picking a theme for your child’s bedroom, consider their likes and interests.
For example, if your child loves superheroes, you can choose a superhero theme for their room.
Another example is if your child loves animals, you can choose a jungle, butterfly, dog, cat, frog, or other animal theme.
If you are having trouble deciding on a theme, you can also create a theme around the season.
For example, you can have a summer theme for the room that features a lot of bright colors and beach-themed items.
For more inspiration and additional themes, check out Amazon’s children’s bedroom ideas and visit Pinterest, too.
2: Select Furniture For the Child’s Bedroom on a Budget Renovation
Another way to update your children’s bedroom on a budget is to select new and inexpensive furniture.
Amazon is a great source of fun and budget-friendly children’s furniture.
Consider adding a storage bed/platform bed that is cost-effective and provides additional space for extra items and toys.
Check out loft beds or bunk beds for a fun, functional, and youthful children’s bedroom.
Pro tip: If you have old furniture that you no longer want or need, try selling it on a site like Craigslist or Facebook to make extra money to purchase new furniture.
3: Repurpose and Repaint Old Bedroom Furniture For the Child’s Bedroom on a Budget Project
If purchasing new children’s bedroom furniture is not within the budget, try to repaint and repurpose old items.
Repainting old furniture can be a great way to save money and create a unique and fun finished product tailored to your child’s theme and interests.
Be sure to pull the paint color choice of bedroom furniture from the selected theme to make sure it complements the rest of the bedroom.
For example, if you repaint a chest of drawers a bright blue color, you may want to consider matching it to the comforter or wall art.

4. Shop in-Store and Online for Good Deals on Upgrading a Child’s Bedroom on a Budget
When it comes to shopping for items for your child’s bedroom, you can either shop in-store or online.
Many furniture and home accessory stores offer online shopping, which can be helpful if you are working with a small budget.
You can also try shopping at websites like Amazon for price comparison to get the best deal.
Another option to save money when decorating a child’s room is to shop at second-hand stores, like Goodwill or Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
These stores are great places to pick up items that you can use to decorate your child’s bedroom on a budget.
5. Personalize with Child’s Bedroom Artwork and Accessories on a Budget
Another way to personalize your child’s bedroom is to add artwork.
There are lots of different options when it comes to artwork for your child’s bedroom.
You can try to find artwork depicting their favorite characters, or you can depict their interests and likes in the artwork.
In addition to artwork, you can also try adding shelves or hooks to your child’s bedroom.
Shelves and hooks are great for displaying items such as books, toys, and art.
Another great option is to try adding curtains or blinds to your child’s bedroom.
These can help to add privacy to the space and provide a nice look for the bedroom.
6. Get Comfy and Budget Bedding on Sale for a Child’s Bedroom Upgrade
Another great idea for upgrading your child’s bedroom is purchasing fun and cozy bedding.
You may want to consider getting bedding such as comforters, sheets, and blankets on sale or visiting Amazon to get great prices.
There are a variety of great options to match the selected child’s bedroom theme.
7. Upgrade Your Child’s Mattress for a Great Sleep in Their Bedroom
As children grow, it is important for them to have a comfortable and supportive mattress.
A lot of people think the bed is just for the kids, so it needs to be cheap.
However, children’s bones and bodies are still forming and it’s important for them to have a great, supportive, quality, and comfortable mattress.

8. Repaint a Child’s Bedroom with Fun Colors for a Budget Upgrade
If you are planning on repainting the walls in your child’s bedroom, you can do so in a fun, bold color that will make the room stand out.
Another option is to pick a single color for the walls in your child’s bedroom and then use other colors sparingly throughout the room.
For example, you can use bright blue in one area of the room and a lighter shade of blue in another area.
This will help unify the room while still allowing it to be fun and bold.
Also, consider adding glitter paint to make the room unique and fun.
Pro tip: Try to pick the best complementary colors for the bedroom theme.

Growing up, my parents let me rearrange my room whenever I wanted. So every couple months I would shift my dresser, desk, and bed around. This was a free way to keep my room feeling different. It also foreced me to clean my room somewhat. Haha
