For me, taking a long, relaxing bath is the perfect way to de-stress.

However, if the whole bathroom is a disaster zone filled with clutter and random items, not in their proper place – I simply cannot unwind.

In addition, if I’ve got to be somewhere and getting ready in a hurry, I want all my bathroom necessities to be within easy access, or my morning routine is off to a terrible start (as is my day.)

When my husband and I moved into our new-to-us 1960s home, the previous owner removed the bathtubs in both bathrooms.

So, we converted one of the bathrooms back to a tub/shower combo.

To make sure I could fully enjoy the new bathtub, I try to keep the bathroom as decluttered as possible.

Plus, it’s great to get ready faster for my everyday life.

After doing some research for my decluttered home post, I learned that a cluttered home can have a significant impact on your mood and mindset.

To gain the most amount of benefits, after decluttering my home and kitchen I came up with my best bathroom organization tips to keep my bathroom a stress-free oasis – and want to share them with all of you.

So, let’s get into it!

How can I make my bathroom more organized?

Below you’ll find tons of great steps and ideas to keep an organized bathroom.

The key to everything is to stay on top of the items in your bathroom and make sure everything has a place.

Where do you put toiletries in a bathroom?

I’ve found that one of the easiest ways to keep all of my bathroom toiletries organized and decluttered is to utilize bathroom cabinets and medicine cabinets.

In addition, another great way is to add a lot of drawer organizers and also invest in clear bins and glass jars to see what items I’m looking for while getting ready and while they are stored in the cabinet space.

How do I organize my bathroom with little space?

We’ll cover more of this below, but one of my best tips is to grab a lazy Susan for all of your everyday items that might clutter your counter space.

I added a lazy Susan for all my everyday toiletries and most-used items and find it’s easier to locate everything while getting ready and it keeps the items decluttered.

In addition, grab some mason jars and fill them with items like cotton balls or small items you use frequently or as part of your daily routine.

These are both great to store bathroom items while also being perfect for the best bathroom organization ideas for use on a daily basis.

What are some of the best bathroom organization tips?

Organizing your bathroom can be tricky, especially if you have one of the tiny bathrooms (like me) or a lot of cluttered stuff.

There are many creative ways to add bathroom storage and organization along with storage space.

The first thing you’ll want to do is to declutter.

Get rid of all the makeup that is long past its expiration dates, antiquated hair products, that old curling iron, tattered bath towels, old hair supplies, and anything else that’s just taking up space in your linen closet or bathroom drawers.

The good news is that you’re making room for a lot of items, while also creating much space for the perfect and specific items needed in your bathroom space.

I’ve decluttered my items – now what?

The next step is to create a layout.

If you have a small bathroom, you may need to get creative with how you organize items.

Perhaps your messy bathroom just needs some creative storage solutions like some drawer organizers or even repurposed spice racks to organize even further.

One of the best things about decluttering is you can now add extra storage and make your bathroom a great place to relax.

What are some other ideas for organizing my bathroom?

Hanging wire baskets are affordable and a simple way to prevent clutter and maximize storage space in your bathroom.

I absolutely love towel hooks so I never have to search for a clean towel when hopping in or out of the shower.

In addition, hang a towel rack on the inside of your door.

This will create more space for toiletries and towels while occupying less visual space in the room.

Grab one like this for a sharp look.

How to maximize countertop storage with wicker baskets

Keeping clutter off the bathroom counter is difficult for some of us (my husband), but it doesn’t have to be.

Consider adding wicker baskets to maximize storage space in your bathroom.

We talked about wire baskets above, however, you can use all types of baskets to store extra towels, hand towels, toilet paper, or other items that you use often in your bathroom.

You can also use baskets to organize things like bathroom cleaning supplies.

What’s helpful is that baskets can go on the floor (careful to store cleaning supplies out of reach of kids and pets), on your counter, or on shelves.

Depending on the size of your bathroom and layout, baskets may sit on your counter or in one of the bathroom cabinets.

Pro tip: You can insert a tray or liner to make cleaning them easier. This will keep it clean and decluttered!

What are other ideas to maximize bathroom storage?

Consider adding tiered trays – they are cute and serve a dual purpose.

These trays double the storage space on your countertops while also being great for decorating.

In addition, mason jars are excellent for refilling and organizing home décor items while also adding some extra space to the bathroom countertop.

They’re also a great spot for storing small items like Q-tips, makeup sponges, cotton balls, cotton swabs, band-aids, and more.

Grab some on Amazon for the best way to keep stocked.

How do I keep bathroom drawers decluttered?

If you have drawers, use drawer dividers to maximize the space while keeping the bathroom decluttered.

As we covered earlier, if you don’t have drawers, tiered trays, and hanging baskets will be your saving grace and provide a lot of storage as an added bonus.

How do I declutter my bathroom sink area?

You know what they say, “A place for everything and everything in its place.”

Well, this is especially true when it comes to your bathroom.

If toothbrushes go on the counter or medicine cabinet, then you need a designated space that has enough room between each item, so they don’t touch one another.

In most homes, the sink area is where all the clutter likes to end up.

From toothbrushes to razors, bandages, and medicated ointment, something is always getting used right by the sink.

To combat the sink and counter clutter, everything needs its own space.

Whether your toothbrushes go in mason jars on the counter, in a bathroom sink organizer, or in the medicine cabinet, having a designated space for each item in the bathroom is key.

Cabinets with cabinet doors or storage units are perfect for storing items that need to be kept out of reach by children.

Grab a couple of inexpensive bins and keep things like bandages, hair ties, hair care items, bobby pins, or other items stored neatly in them and on a shelving unit.

What are some other best bathroom organization tips?

Add a bathroom cleaning kit.

One way to keep your bathroom tidy is to have a cleaning kit that you can easily reach for when your bathroom needs a quick tidy-up.

For cleaning supplies, you can put together a cleaning kit with disinfecting wipes, toilet brushes or bowl cleaner, a mop or broom, and a cleaner like vinegar or baking soda.

best bathroom organization tips to store cleaning supplies

You can also include other items that you may need often like hair dryers, extra toilet paper, or a plunger.

Whatever items you choose to include in your cleaning kit, be sure to keep them in an easily accessible place so that you can put them away just as easily.

For items that you don’t use often, you can store them in a basket or bin that’s on the lower level of your bathroom counter.

This will make them easy to reach while keeping them out of sight.

What are some shower organization tips?

Install a shower caddy!

This is probably my favorite best bathroom organization tip to share.

A shower caddy makes cleaning the shower a breeze.

Bonus – it also makes everything easily accessible when you’re in the tub.

A shower caddy is a perfect place to store your shower supplies.

Plus, it will keep all your items within easy reach.

A shower caddy typically holds items like shampoo and conditioner, body wash, soap, a loofah or scrubber, face wash, shaving cream or razor, and brushes.

Put the items that you use most often closest to the top so that they stay within easy reach.

I highly recommend the simplehuman Adjustable and Extendable Shower Caddy XL, Stainless Steel, and Anodized Aluminum.

I purchased it for our new-to-us 1960s home.

I’ve tried many shower caddy options through the years, and this has been the best by far.

The reasons I love my simplehuman shower caddy are in the details:

  • Handheld shower head compatible and designed with a space down the middle to accommodate handheld showerhead hoses.
  • Wide, adjustable, and customized shelves that slide up and down to make room for taller bottles.
  • Works for large modern shower accessories that are hard to fit.
  • It features solid materials and secure installation.
  • Features an adjustable neck that extends to make room for taller bottles on the top shelf and lowers the caddy for easy reach.
  • The shelves can easily be repositioned with a quick turn of the dial.
  • It’s constructed from stainless steel and anodized aluminum making it rust-free.
  • Drains water completely so soap stays dry in the soap dish and lasts longer.
  • Store bottles upside-down for effortless dispensing.
  • Hold a razor, loofah, or other accessories with convenient hooks.
  • Install easily with a rubberized showerhead clamp that supports the caddy from above and twin pivoting suction cups support it from below
  • Specially cut holes in shelves allow for effortless dispensing even with upside-down bottles.
  • Durable stainless steel construction is corrosion-resistant easy to clean and rust-proof.
  • 5-year warranty.

What if I don’t want a shower caddy?

Not in love with the idea of using a shower caddy?

Another option is to hang your products on the shower curtain rings or with a dispenser.

Shampoo dispensers (like this one) are gaining popularity, and you can even get one that dispenses shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

That saves quite a bit of space when you can get rid of three bottles and just use one dispenser that is mounted on the wall.

If you have children, mount a mesh bath toys bag right above the tub so the toys can stay organized in between uses.

It’s important to use a mesh bag, for drainage purposes.

Moldy, smelly toys are not quite as fun as clean ones.

If your kiddos have lots of toys, you may want to rotate them.

What should I do with the toilet area?

Take the bathroom organizing ideas to the next level with the toilet organizer for a really great sanity saver.

As an added benefit, head over to Amazon for an affordable and easy-to-put-together toilet storage cabinet

Since our bathroom is smaller in size – an over-the-toilet storage cabinet is helpful for hiding different items like extra toilet paper, paper towels, hand towels, and room spray.

How else can I organize my bathroom?

If you are looking for an additional storage area for your bathroom, then check out a storage bathroom mirror that offers huge storage space.

Final thoughts

I love my bathroom and always enjoy a fun DIY project like decluttering while also helping to keep my bathroom a clutter-free mess the easy way.

I hope you enjoyed my best bathroom organization tips and can utilize some of these ideas in your own home.

The bathroom is that area where it’s simply hard to keep organised!
One tip, I have is to not buy new products before using old ones! It’s so easy to get carried away with some new fangled product, buy it and before you know it you’ve got 3-5 products that all do the same thing!
I think finding out that makeup goes off really helped curb my shopping!
